Warriors drop, first two at Lebanon Wesclin's boys basketball t.eam lost its first two games of the season last weekend, both in Lebanon Thanks- giving tournament action. The Warriors fell to the top-ranked AA team in Illinois in Nashville to open the tournament on Friday, then lost to Madison on Saturday before the tournament recessed until this week. Wesclin took on the host Leba- non team on Tuesday night, and will play at either 3 or 4:30 p.m. in Satur- day's championshi p round. compete in the game, making just four of 24 attempts from beyond the arc. A trio of guards led the scoring ef- fort, as Alex Smith scored 13, Jarad Steenbergen 12, and Jared Timmer- mann 10 to pace the Wesclin column. Darrell Combs scored seven, Justin Goff three, and Jake Stephens one for Wesclin. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7 AT 11 AM Madison 85, Wesclin 54 Madison sprinted to a 40-24 half- time lead and never looked back against Wesclin, who had ten play- ers crack the scoring column. Jarad Steenbergen scored 15 for Wesclin, and Jared Timmermann joined him in double figures with 14. Alex Smith netted seven, Darrell Combs four, and Justin Goff and Mike Thoele three each. Cameron Cathcart, Na- than Powers, Jake Stephens, and Nick Thoele each scored two points. Nashville 59, Wesclin 36 The Warriors hung in against the state's top-ranked Class AA team for a while, trailing just 14-11 after a quarter, but Nashville sprinted to a 16-point halftime lead by virtue of a 19-6 advantage in the second frame. Hunter Ottensmeier, Blake Rakers, Brian Courtney, and Mick Stephens all scored in double figures for Wesclin. Hours: M-F 8-5 TRENTON 224-9200 Girls now invited to participate in 'Little Dribblers' basketball program This is the 43rd year of Lit- tle Dribblers' basketball and the first year for it to extend the opportunity to girls to par- ticipate. Boys and girls who are in the first through sixth grades, living in New Mem- phis, Trenton, and New Baden areas are invited to participate and receive instructional time as well as game experience. Every Saturday, a clinic is held prior to the league game focusingon dribbling, passing, shooting, and other skills. After the clinic, simultane- ous games are held on the two courts. The clinics and leagues are located in the Wesclin High School Gym. This is on Saturdays only, from December 28 through March 8th. Registration is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, at the Wesclin High School Gym from 10 a.m. until noon. The teams will be limited to the number of players allowed so registration is first come, first served. Applications are no longer sent through the mail. At registration each player will be assigned to a clinic on December 28, at the Wesclin High School gym. Times for the individual grades will be: Midgets (first graders) 8:30- 9:30, PeeWees (second grad- ers) 9:30-10:30, Juniors (third and fourth graders) 10:30- 11:30, and Majors (fifth and sixth graders) 11:30-12:30. Leagues begin January 4, and schedules will be handed out at the December clinic. Parent volunteers are need- ed to help run the program. Wesclin girls split at Piasa Wesclin's girls basketball team sits at 3-3 on the season after splitting four games in the Piasa Southwestern tour- nament and losing a confer- ence matchup with Carlyle Monday night. Wesclin's Zoe Christopher was named to the all tourna- ment team at Piasa. Piasa 43, Wesclin 31 No Wesclin'player reached double figures in the loss, as Ally Isenhower led the way with nine points and Zoe Christopher added eight. Carrie Rakers scored six for Wesclin, All Brueggemann four, and Curly Haukapp two. Wesclin 62, Highland JV 45 Zoe Christophe r scored 15 points, All Brueggemann 14, Curly Haukapp 12, and Car- rie Rakers 10 to lead Wesclin past the Highland junior var- sity team. Ally Isenhower added six, Mayghen Mugele three, and Cami Meddows two for the Warriors Calhoun 76, Wesclin 55 Calhoun used a decided size advantage to ease past Wesclin. Zoe Christopher scored 19 points to lead the way for the Warriors, while Carrie Rakers added 14 and Ally Isenhower 11. Ali Brueggemann contributed six points, Curly Haukapp three, and Mayghen Mugele two. Carlyle 72, Wesclin 71 The Warriors stepped into conference play and found themselves in the midst of a thriller Monday night, when they took Carlyle to overtime before falling by a point. Zoe Christopher scored 19 for Wesclin, and Carrie Rakers (17) and Ally Isenhower (12) joined her in double figures. Mayghen Mugele added eight points, Ali Brueggemann and Carly Haukapp seven each, and Erin Johnson one to close out the Wesclin book.
