We (my wife) decided to forget the carpet and refinish the hardwood floors. So here's where we are. I ripped up all the carpet filled all the staple and nail holes with wood putty. Halfway through the job I realized that I did not read the di- rections and it says on the can that I should use this after I stain and top coat. I did it before because I was planning to either sand or seal or just apply restorer. Should I have any cause for concern? This means all the little holes you filled will result in a lighter area wherever the putty product touched the wood. You will have a lot of "white dots" showing in your floor. A stain pen is like a marker or sharpie that comes in a variety of wood shade types and can also be used for minor scratches, chips and abrasions.
