Wednesday, December 17, 2008 Trenton Sun Page 6 - Local Leona Billhartz Leona T. Billhartz, 76, of O'Fallon and formerly of New Baden, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Clin- ton Manor in New Baden. She was born March 15, 1932 in Mascoutah, daugh- ter of Bernard and Pearl, nee Haas, Friederich. She married Earl C. Bill- hartz November 18, 1950 in Mascoutah, and he died September 28, 2003. A brother, Richard Frie- derich also preceded her, along with in-laws. Surviving are her chil- dren, Alan (Debby) Bill- hartz of Smithton, Larry (Julie) Billhartz of Venita, Oregon, Diane (Charles) Phelps of Lenoir, North Carolina, and Patrick Billhartz of O'Fallon; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Lenora Schul- te of Mascoutah, Werner (Anna Lee) Friederich of Lenzburg,NormaReinneck of Mascoutah, Charlotte (Earl) Haas of Mascoutah, Cathy Schneider of Col- linsville, Charles Fried- erich of Eagle, Idaho; Sha- ron Fortune of Mascoutah, and David (Rita) Fried- erich of Joppa; in-laws including Mary Billhartz of New Baden, other rela- tives, and friends. Mrs. Billhartz had worked at Hill's Bakery in New Baden for 22 years. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. She was born October 21, 1935 in Prestonville, Ken- tucky, daughter of Frank and Ruth, nee Chapman, Poland, and they both died when Georgiana was a little girl. Thereafter, she was raised by her aunt, Mary Chapman. Two brothers, Francis Marion Poland and John Morris Poland, also preced- ed her. She married Robert Brown October 9, 1965, and he sur- vives at home. During their life together, they lived in Carrollton, Kentucky; Little Rock, and Pittsburgh before settling in Trenton in 1973. Also surviving are two sons, Stephen (Lynn) Brown of Trenton, and Matthew (Genifer) Brown of Swan- sea; three grandchildren, Katelyn, Nathan, and Jacob Brown; two sisters, Helen Virginia Witte of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nancy Brown of Emporium, Pennsylvania; in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. Mrs. Brown was an ac- tive congregant at First United Methodist Church in Trenton for over three de- cades, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School for many years. She was a homemaker, who loved her family, friends, flowers, gar- dening, reading, television game shows, the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Il- linois Fightin' Illini. Brian Tebbe volunteered in the afternoon assist ing residents with greeting cards. West Gate Baptist Church was well represent- ed by Roxie Williams, Mari- lyn Cryder, Pat Schwan and Clara Wright. They shared fellowship and song with the residents. Happy Birthday greeting went to Dorothy Frerker on Wednesday. Alvina Feldma- nn led the morning exercise class. Father Jansen cel- ebrated mass this morning with Ruth Lager and Millie Wesselmann assisting. Jim Huelsmann provided the music for the service and then joined Roman Wilke in the living room where they played their accordions until diunertime. The monthly Euchre party was held in the activity room this afternoon. At the eve- ning game of Jackpot, Den- nis Kehrer, Ruth Guenther and Ellie Harpstrite won two games each. Donna Heckenkemper was here early on Thursday to barber the men before the holidays. In the eve- ning words again occupied residents as they try to win the title of Trivia Champion. Seven was the number for the evening as eight players tied with seven correct an- swers each. Saturday's morning stretch warmed up the bingo players and got them ready for the game. Leslie Stauder won the cover all game to- day. Residents had free time to pursue activities of their choice and interest. The Aviston 4-H Aces car- oled this afternoon, also. A1- vina Feldmann won the eve- ning game, Odds or Evens. Ruby Schneider was second and Verna Kopper tied with Sally Barth in third. Father Jansen celebrated mass on Sunday with the as- sistance of Elmer Schrage, Ruth Lager and Helen and Jerry Middeke. Chad Schrage was on the sched- ule to provide the music for today's service. Football games and holi- day movies were on TV in the afternoon and evening and were enjoyed by fami- lies and residents alike. The evening activity offered was Roll'em. Tonight's win- ners were Alvina Feldmann, Dolores Schulte and Verna Koppers. This weekwe welcome Rose Santel, Norma Heinzman and Arthur Harpstrite to our home.
